From the President
GSW 2010 National President for February Newsletter
Happy New Year to you all. I hope the holidays were full of family and fun and remembering your friends. I always enjoy reading the cards and finding out what everyone has been up to. Thank you to all who sent me cards, emails and called to wish me happy holidays.
I've had two members ask me why I only write condolence letters to Army spouses. Simple answer – the Army casualty list is the only one we have been able to get. I wish I could write to everyone, but until the other services release their lists to us I can't.
Since the holidays I have been busy with speaking engagements, which I enjoy. I've spoken at a Retired Enlisted Association meeting here in Orlando; a Vietnam and All Veterans Banquet in Orlando; and a tea for the wives of members of the First Cavalry Association at their reunion also here in Orlando. I've also spoken at a Daughters of the American Revolution luncheon twice. I'm pleased to say that Gold Star Wives has several new members thanks to this outreach.
I would like to remind all of you that your Region Conferences are coming up in March and April – please make every effort to attend them. You will need to have your new chapter officers elected and this is the time to decide who you would like to run for national office and to approve resolutions to be sent to our National Parliamentarian for presentation at convention. I hope that I will see many of you at National in Omaha, NE. The 2000 convention in Omaha was wonderful and I expect this one to be equally fun and informative. Thank you to the Regions who invited me to join them for their conferences.
A gentle reminder as Joan Young used to say – Community Service reports are due as are Veterans Service reports. The forms were in the December 2009 newsletter.
Thank you to all who have called and emailed me after receiving their Stay At Home Tea letters. We will have a big group enjoying our tea on 14 February 2010. I have enjoyed talking with all of you and reading your emails.
Please remember, I am only a phone call or email away.
