The first chapter was formed in the 1940's at the end of WWII. After several years and the loss of members, the chapter folded. The Vietnam War brought many new widows together and a new chapter was formed in 1973. Two of those new widows remain active in the Omaha Area Chapter today. The chapter has two Past National Presidents who went on to become Chairman of the Board of Directors. One member is now a National Officer. The following are chapter officers today:

The chapter meets the first Saturday of each month at 1:00 PM at Richmont Village Retirement Community starting in September going through December. The meetings resume in February and go through May. In 2013 eight (8) members attended the National Convention in Denver, CO. Attendance at the meetings is usually around 15 members. At the present time there are 58 members, with two being over 90 years. One member served in WWII.

The Omaha Area Chapter hosted the North Central/Midwest Region Conference at the Doubletree Hotel in Omaha, April 25 - 26, 2014. The chapter hosted National Conventions in 1990, 2000, and 2010.

Our members volunteer at the Omaha VA Medical Center, Bellevue CBOC and Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home. The chapter makes monetary donations to the Omaha VA Medical Center Standdown for homeless veterans and other programs at the VA Medical Center. During the holiday season donations are made to Goodfellows in Omaha, the Bellevue Food Pantry and Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home.

In 2004 Gold Star Wives members were honored to be the Grand Marshal of the Veterans Day Parade in Bellevue. We have been invited to attend the Dignitaries Breakfast before the parade each year and our chapter helps serve at the Chili Feed after the parade. Our Chapter President participates in the wreath presentation on Veterans Day at Memorial Park in Omaha.

The Chapter president presents a wreath at the Bellevue Cemetery during observance of Memorial Day. Members also attend the service at the Offutt AFB cemetery. On the second Saturday in June members go to Lincoln, NE, to the Memorial Gardens to attend services and represent Gold Star Wives.

Members are also active by serving at area churches and for other organizations. We are proud to serve our community, veterans, but, more importantly, our Gold Star Wives members who have faced adversity and found friendship and camaraderie through our organization.
