In 1982 a fearless and daunting
woman by the name of Betty Kiser started a Gold Star Wives chapter in the
Phoenix area. At one time the chapter grew to 250 members but currently stands
at 163. A big portion of our members are elderly ladies with connection to
WWII. We also have widows from the Korean war, Vietnam war and OIF/OEF.
Our chapter is quite active in the greater Phoenix area. Our members are active in all aspects of community service.
Our Chapter holds meetings from September through June. Meetings are held on the first Saturday of each month with the exception of the December Christmas Luncheon and June luncheon for the installation of officers. The meetings are held at the location below.
Arizona State Veterans Home

This was our Christmas luncheon at Abuela's. Our lunch was provided by a secret Santa (maybe Helping Hands for Freedom)??? We had such a great time and lots of wonderful presents !
On October 5th, 2016, Gold Star Wives of America, Inc., Phoenix chapter supported a great organization: Save the Family in a ground breaking ceremony for a housing initiative named Valor on Eighth in downtown Tempe, Arizona. It is the first of its kind program to build and provide affordable housing in an area that is close to ASU and the transit system. Save the Family partnered with ARM which is the Affordable Rental Movement, Gorman & Company (builder), and the City of Tempe Arizona.
There was a huge turnout from different organizations, including the vice mayor of Tempe and all the organizations that have come together to start building this housing development.
Save the Family is a non-profit organization that helps families to end homelessness in Arizona. Valor on Eighth was especially important to us because it helps Veterans and their children. Veteran service agencies will be available to help provide social and financial services, counseling and career development for the residents.
Gold Star Wives of America, Inc., Phoenix Chapter will assist with food drives & donations, and any other things that will help with this wonderful endeavor. We met Stephanie Michael; the case coordinator for Veteran Families.
