|GSW President's Message|
Judi Van Cleave
We are survivors in grief but never need to be alone. We are families that feel torn apart, but friends are always with us as we journey our pain. We come together as strangers and become sisters and brothers. We are the Gold Star Wives of America; Inc. founded in 1945 and thousands have served our organization since that year forward.
Membership is diverse in age, race, creed, religion and where we live. Our common denominator is the loss of our spouse while serving our country or as a result of service connected illnesses and disabilities. Gold Star Wives is divided into eight regions throughout the country. There are national officers and a national board; chapter members and members at large. Membership is from WWII to present day survivors. We welcome opportunities to help the widows/widowers who have recently found their lives torn apart. Our purposes are to offer friendship and share our knowledge. We have walked this horrible path. Our friendship and knowledge is for the asking.
These have been many long years in our Country with too many sorrows. As an organization, thousands of heartbreaks have found some measure of healing as fellow survivors; some with families established and some with just the beginnings of a dreamed life, not to become fulfilled.
In Service and in Memory we volunteer in VA Hospitals, local organizations, our schools and communities. We attend Memorials that honor all our Veterans, attend Military services, lay wreaths in Honor and speak whenever we can to promote Survivors issues. We do our best to salute our Military currently serving and those who didn’t make it home.
Our goal is to continue to walk the halls of Congress and be ready to testify whenever the opportunity allows. We hope our gold hats and jackets will be recognized as a force to be dealt with. I thank you for having faith in me and I promise to do my very best to represent GSW’s in a positive, energetic, kind and caring way. We are an all inclusive organization here to serve and to survive the blow to our hearts.
